Societal Overhaul

“Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes,
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change,
into something rich and strange,
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell,
Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them, ding-dong, bell.”

Shakespeare ~ The Tempest

If it hasn’t become clear to most of you by now, it should have. We are in the middle of a blatant attempt by certain political elements  to completely and utterly overhaul society as it has existed for at least the last 100 years, if not longer. I call these elements by what they call themselves – Republicans. A little history is in order.

IRS Profiling. Scandal? I Think Not.

Republicans are so transparent, so self-centered, so clueless, yet so stupid, that everything they do in Washington is getting to be…so tiresome. Now we have another minor administrative, bureaucratic glitch in one agency of Washington, and the dumb R’s are flogging it like they flog all the other dead horses they dig up, in the hopes that unlike all the other scandals that come and go, these will be remembered in the elections of November, 2014.  It turns out the election of Obama in 2008 ignited a  flurry of so-called patriotism. We elected a black man to the White House.

‘Twas the Day after Christmas…

I wrote this on the day after Christmas.

With apologies to Major Henry Livingston Jr. (1748-1828)
(previously believed to be Clement Clarke Moore).

‘Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the House
The leftovers were eaten, the fire was well doused.
The stockings had been stripped of their goodies and lost
While the pols at the Capitol dreamed of bribes of great cost.

Stalemate

Can someone point me to a piece of substantial legislation, something that will provide a significant benefit to America, or that will correct a serious deficiency, that has been passed by Congress since January of 2011, when the crop of 2010 elected Congress critters took their seats?

Heck of a Job, Craig.

Sound familiar? After the debacle we remember as Katrina, Bush 2 complimented his buddy, Michael Brown, who he gave what he thought was a plum job as head of FEMA . He said, as people were dying in the flooded waters of New Orleans, or suffering through their hellish stay at the Super Dome, “Heck of a job, Brownie!”.

Where’s The Tea Party When You Really Need Them?

Huh?

You know. That New American political movement that is so against big government. The one’s that want government to stay out of our business. Shouldn’t they be rushing in to save the day in cases like this?

Why I’m Not Really Upset With This Election

Given the amount of money and publicity that fuels elections every two years, it’s a wonder that mass hysteria isn’t the rule, rather than the exception. In fact, it’s not even an exception, it’s part of the journalistic hyperbole that sells papers and TV ads, but it’s not really evident in reality. With the exception of humorous asides, I can’t get all worked up about the election results.  So what? So the Republicans took back the House? To watch the pundits last night, one would think that in 222 years of elections, 111 election cycles, that had never happened before.

Eight False Things…

…The Public “Knows” Before Election Day.

Interesting piece. It seems that disinformation is the key to Republican success. FOX News shares a lot of the blame, but they don’t care. Those that are so against Obama, the current Administration, and our current Democratic leaders seems to base their antipathy on pure ignorance. It can be seen in the campaigns of Christine O’Donnell, Sharon Angle, Rand Paul and other sweethearts of the Tea Party.

The antidote is a little big shot of reality, mixed with some skepticism and common sense.

Lotsa Lists

I’m into numbers today. Numbers, as in lists.

First up, the Top Ten anti-gay, rabid homophobic men in public life who happened to be caught, hypocritically, being gay themselves. It’s a telling list when Ted Haggard doesn’t even make the top four, though I don’t think the list is weighted in any particular order. It runs the gamut from Mark Foley through Haggard to George Rekers to the notable Pastor Eddie Long (and I wonder how many permutations of his last name he has used to attract the boys?). Then, to add to your numbers fixation, there is the bonus that the top 10 actually includes 14 names! How good can it get?
