Societal Overhaul

“Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes,
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change,
into something rich and strange,
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell,
Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them, ding-dong, bell.”

Shakespeare ~ The Tempest

If it hasn’t become clear to most of you by now, it should have. We are in the middle of a blatant attempt by certain political elements  to completely and utterly overhaul society as it has existed for at least the last 100 years, if not longer. I call these elements by what they call themselves – Republicans. A little history is in order.

A Dallas Moment

Some of you may remember the TV prime time soap drama,  Dallas. JR Ewing and his family were Texas oil millionaires with dysfunctional relations rarely seen in real life. One of the plot lines for a whole season occurred after one of the actors (Patrick Duffy, who played Bobby Ewing) left the show, and was not part of the TV family. At the end of the season, he must have missed his paycheck, and asked to be brought back, so the next season began with Bobby’s wife waking from a dream (and he in the shower) with this dream being the entire past season without him. All the viewers smacked their foreheads and thought “WTF?”, but then the show continued with him for a number of seasons, so it apparently didn’t affect the false reality created by the show.

Now consider the following:

Do We Look That Stupid?

Calling it a “patriotic exercise,” Flynn said the bill is geared to teach youths about history and principles.

Interesting quote, wouldn’t you say? Could be about anything, and depending on the subject, might be very helpful, very explanatory. But in this case, it’s about a Texas legislator, a Republican, who recently introduced a bill in the Texas legislature that would ensure that any Texas teacher who wants to can display the Ten Commandments in a classroom.

Can We Give Texas Back to Mexico?

Texas has a fairly long history of being ruled by different countries, hence the term “Six Flags over Texas” (Spain, France, Mexico, Independence, US, Confederacy, and back to the US). Flying the current US flag these days over the Capitol in Austin seems to be contrary to the principles that resulted in the creation of that flag in the first place. Texas is quickly becoming the “Stupid State”, and because of its size and buying power, is trying to drag the rest of the country down into a pit of  religious based ignorance with it.

In The News…

A couple of things caught my eye today, so instead of one post on one subject, I’ll just mention a few of them.

The first news item of significance is that a recent study shows that a fetus (or as they spell in in the UK, a foetus)  feels no pain before the 24th week of gestation.

Best Quote Of The Day

If two senators have a four-billion-year difference over the age of a rock, is it any wonder they can’t agree over anything else?

This is from an article published in the Mail Online by a British author commenting about America. The Mail Online, which I presume is the online version of the Daily Mail, looks more like a British scandal sheet than a legitimate news rag, but not as bad as say, our National Enquirer.

Remember Kenneth Foster…

…because there is a good chance that by the time many of you read this, he will be dead. He is scheduled to be executed by the State of Texas on Thursday evening. He will be executed for having committed the crime of murder. He will also be executed despite the fact that the executing state admits that he did not commit the crime of murder. How is this possible, you ask? Let’s back up.

Eleven years ago, Foster was driving a car with three passengers. One of the passengers left the car, got into an altercation and shot a man dead. The shooter was executed for this crime last year. At the time of the shooting, Kenneth Foster was 80 feet away in his car. Continue reading
