Romney Strikes Out

I won’t vote for Mitt Romney. Of course, I really can’t think of a Republican I could vote for, but this clinches it.

More prayer in schools?

“I know there are some people who would like to make this nation a secular nation, who want to take God out of everything that exists in this country,” Romney said. “They try to say it’s unconstitutional.”

Let’s Investigate Everything

In the Nothing’s-Too-Stupid-For-The-Republican-Party Department:

Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Santorum have all signed a pledge to form a commission to investigate the LGBT community if elected President.

It’s Hard To Take Her Seriously

She says some of the dumbest (not darnedest) things supposedly coming out of the mouth of an intelligent, well educated public servant. Irreconcilable things. Completely hypocritical statements. Self serving beliefs masked as facts. Utter nonsense.

If You Believe These Things…

Not to mention a hypocrite.

I think I’ll add it to my header, as an intermittent advertisement.

The End of A Troll

I hate to do this. I really do. I’m a firm believer in free speech. The 1st Amendment is like my Bible. I really believe, that as bad as some speech is, to ban it is even worse. When we start banning speech because of its content, we’ve lost our way in what I feel is the inexorable progress of human civilization. Speech leads the way, so banning someone from my blog is banning their speech, and I really hate to do that…and…

…Oh, who am I kidding. No I don’t. At least not in this case.

Ironic Hypocrisy

I’m not sure how I stumbled on this site, but suffice it to say I did. I read the article by the priest who wrote it, about how the big bad atheists are taking over the blogosphere, and maybe even the entire Intertubes, with their “aggressive’, “crude”, “negative”, “dismissive” commentary on all things religious.

As you would expect, I disagreed with him, and left a comment. I said something similar to this:

Why Do We Care?

That’s a question we atheists get from theists. Often. Almost constantly, when we point out a fallacy in their religious thinking, or try to substantiate why we support the 1st Amendment’s proscription against governmental religious displays, or when we simply say we don’t believe in gods. They want to know why we care that they believe in supernatural spirits, or miracles, or Biblical authority, or other unsubstantiated beliefs. What harm do their beliefs cause, and why are we so damn strident about our opposition to them?

So That’s That

In 2005 the Supreme Court ruled in two cases involving the public display of the Ten Commandments. One of the cases involved two counties in Kentucky. The two counties in Kentucky attempted to modify their displays after the ruling, by adding part of the Declaration of Independence, the Mayflower Compact, the national motto, and other statements referring to God and the Bible, in an effort to dilute the religious impact of the displays, and in order to meet the guidelines set down by the Supreme Court for proper display of the Ten Commandments. If you remember, the display in Texas was allowed, but those in Kentucky were not.

FOX In A Box

When I was a child I used to have one of those little Jack-in-the-Box toys. Remember them? It was a little square box with a trap door on the top and a grinder on the side I would turn, causing it to play the song “Pop! Goes the Weasel”. When it got to the end of the song, the trap door would pop open on a spring mechanism and a clown would pop out.

I was reminded of my childhood toy when I read this article in Media Matters about FOX News (also known as Fake News, Faux News, Fixed News, Fictional News, False News, Bovine Feces News and numerous other more accurate descriptions.) A former employee of FOX has stated that FOX news is nothing but a propaganda machine.
