Grandma’s head exploded when her grandson
Popped a cap in her on Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as bad guys
But as for me and Grandpa we believe.

Kyle had been drinking too much egg nog
Mom had left the Glock out on the bar
Dad had always taught us all gun safety
With the rest of the Ballistic Arts.

The cops just shook their heads in much frustration
Since they had seen it all before
Such a happy family on the gun range
‘Til there’s another dead one on the floor.

So Grandma’s no longer ‘mong the living
And Kyle, well, he’s now a homeless bum
You can say there’s no such thing as bad guys
‘Cause Kyle was just a good guy with a gun.

Now Grandma’s just a very happy mem’ry
Of past days posing proudly ‘neath the tree
You can say there’s no such thing as bad guys
But as for me and Grandpa we believe….

This is dedicated to the Fiore Family of Arizona. Their Christmas calendar made me feel so yuletidish inside, I just had to rewrite the lyrics to the classic Christmas Jingle, “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”. Michele is an Assemblywomen from Nevada with, some might say, questionable and controversial opinions. This revised song is just an homage to the logical extension of one of them….

This Is NOT An April Fools Post

Seems like a lot of bloggers are posting April Fools Jokes today, because April Fools Day is one of the sacred holidays of Atheism, having no reference whatsoever to the divine, supernatural or religious (even though this year it falls on Palm Sunday). It’s a completely secular holiday. Most of the posts on Freethought Blogs are of the “my fellow atheist blogger X has decided to hang it up, and stop blogging ” variety. I have to think this was a planned strategy. (D’uh).

A Broad Spectrum Of Disbelief

Here’s something that’s been bugging me, so allow me a little rant.

It seems like every time an atheist makes a comment about some aspect of religion that bugs them, they are quite forcefully and specifically told to shut up. Religion is not a topic one is supposed to discuss in polite company (along with politics and sex, and we know how often that rule is broken). Atheists are made to feel like every time they criticize theism, they are stepping over some boundary of propriety. Due to my upbringing, I often find myself gauging the sensibilities of my listener to see if I might offend them, but I notice that never does a Christian (I don’t have much contacts with Hindus, Muslims and members of other religions) stop and think before they “thank god” or “god bless me” or otherwise inject their religious beliefs into a conversation.

Was He Dropped On His Head At Birth?

God has sent Christopher Hitchens to hell because he loves him.

This is clearly what happens when a perfectly viable human being is dropped on his head at birth, either by the doctor as he’s pulled out of his womb, or by his mother when she got a good look at him. His brains get scrambled, the synapses in his skull don’t fire as they are supposed to, information doesn’t get sorted properly, and stupidity, sheer idiotic lunacy, comes out of his mouth.

It’s either that, or he’s a Christian.

You decide.

Split Personality

As you would expect, Herman Cain’s wife stands by her man. Hey! It’s a marriage. Why wouldn’t she? That’s what married couples do. They try to overlook the failings of their spouses and sometimes go public with nonsensical rationalizations.

Herman Cain’s wife says the claims of sex harassment against the GOP presidential candidate don’t ring true because he “totally respects women.”

Confessions of An Antinatalist

Have you ever wondered what taking logic to its logical conclusion actually results in? Have you read something that literally turned on a floating light bulb over your head? (OK, not literally, but you get my drift). Have you ever really thought about, I mean REALLY thought about the consequences of your decision to have children? Jim  Crawford has, in his part philosophical, part autobiographical Confessions of an Antinatalist.

Modern Biblical Law

Recently, Salin Palin, noted Constitutional scholar, opined on the state of the law on The O’Reilly Factor. When asked to compare America today with America in 1776, she read off her palm:

Well, that new kind of world view that I think is kind of a step towards a fundamental transformation of America that some want to see today, I think, again, that it is an attempt to revisit and rewrite history. (entire sentence, sic) I think we should kind of keep this clean, keep it simple, go back to what our founders and our founding documents meant. They’re quite clear that we would create law based on the God of the Bible and the 10 Commandments. It’s pretty simple.
