Imagine If All Atheists Left America

If you go to the YouTube link, there are links from the creator of the video to his sources.

Interesting, no?

(Not sure I’d miss the entertainers.) 😦

  1. Eh, this video has been around a while, and I’ve never much liked it. It comes off as too condescending. It’s the type of thing I doubt will convince anyone of anything if they don’t already agree with us.

  2. I like the video, but, I think an objection from those who disagree with it would be that too many assumptions, e.g., changed literacy rates, poverty rates, etc., are offered without support. I assume the author (what do you call someone who assembles videos?) was trying to make something short and punchy, not write a dissertation, so the omissions are understandable on that basis. I also assume that the assumptions actually can be supported quite credibly. Still, I think the lack of some backup renders the video more effective for preaching to the atheist choir than stimulating critical thought in believers.

  3. Okay – I have to amend my comment a bit. The author does offer support at the YouTube site, as you noted. I still wonder whether some of the sources could not have been added, perhaps in smaller text, to the body of the video, or at the end. Just a thought.

  4. I’m with The Chaplain on this. As an actor, though, I’m morally required to take exception to this:

“(Not sure I’d miss the entertainers.)”

On the other hand, if we all hitchhiked off the planet, think how cool our new home would be.

  5. I don’t know. From some of the Christian Dominionists I’ve talked with (actually, they talked at me, there was no exchange of information), an America with less money, fewer schools, fewer intellectuals, etc., seems to be exactly what they want — sort of Iran, but with Christians rather than Muslims deciding what laws can pass, who can run for office, and what can be taught in schools.

And is there something wrong with me that I recognized, I think, three actors? And they were all male? (No idea who the women were).

    (((Billy))),
You’re just saying that for (((Wife)))’s benefit, aren’t you?
